Ceramics inspired by textures of the desert, handmade in Marfa, Texas
About Sill Ceramics
Hello! I’m Katy, the maker behind Sill Ceramics. The name comes from a geology term used to describe “a flat intrusion of rock that forms between preexisting layers of rock” — an ode to the inspiration I consistently find in natural forms and one of the driving forces that pushed me to pursue this craft.
As a multidisciplinary artist with a former primary focus in film production, I was craving a creative outlet that was hands-on; that demanded a calming focus away from screens. I decided to take the leap of shifting ceramics from a hobby into a business after relocating to Marfa in 2025. The Big Bend region has been persistent in alluring me to the rugged landscapes and otherworldly plants of the Chihuahuan Desert. The textures of this landscape continue to fascinate me, and I’m eager to transform that inspiration into physical form through my ceramics work.
